The top things to do in Perth make the laidback capital city of Western Australia an exciting tourist destination. Flanked by the Indian Ocean, Swan River and Darling Scarp, this city is home to beautiful but less crowded beaches.
Here are some of the top things to do in Perth:
Give a kangaroo a high-five. Or just watch them hop nonchalantly around the designated kangaroo area in the zoo. Here, kangaroos are free to roam the visitors’ path and are pretty used to seeing people up close.
But if you prefer semi-wild kangaroos, you can go to the Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park which is a stone’s throw away from the Whitfords Tansperth Train.
Watch a football game. Football fanatics will definitely love the energy of the crowds in Subiaco, who either pine for the West Coast Eagles or the Fremantle Dockers. Even if you’re not familiar with the Australian football teams (and perhaps some of their rules), it’s still a fun match to watch. The crowd’s excitement is infectious too!
Skinny Dip. Swanbourne is the only beach in Perth which allows nude bathing. And with its laidback atmosphere and its nonchalant beach goers, it’s almost impossible not to let everything hang loose when you visit this beach. But if you’re a little too shy to show it all off, Perth has a great number of other spectacular beaches with fine white sands and warm, turquoise waters. But do bring our sunblock with you (and an insect repellent, should you plan on staying until the evening). And only swim between the flags in patrolled beaches as most of them are on the open ocean side.
Cycling tour. Whether it’s keeping fit or admiring the views, cycling is one of the top things to do in Perth, with its fine weather virtually all year round. There are many bike paths in Perth, and one of the most popular is along the Swan River, as it’s mostly flat and has a great view. If you prefer, you can take either a solo tour (bike rentals are available in Perth), or sign up for a group tour such as the Bluetongue Bike Tours.
